I have TWO Heathkit H-89 (factory built) computers. These are Z80 based
machines built into a 'smart' 25 line addressable terminal. These are
1980 vintage, are compatible only with themselves! Both have built-in
floppy drives, no hard-drives, run on a DOS system. If nothing else, the
termials can be used to logon to other machines!
If you are into HAM radio, these would make an excellent choice for a
dedicated PACKET host! XYL says these MUST GO! Make an offer!

This may sound stupid, but did you enable the "9600 Baud" feature?
It's a key combination on the front panel. Without it, it won't work.
I'll e-mail you the documentation that's been posted on this newsgroup.

In this group I recently saw a couple references to "LAWN Boxes"; a 900Mhz SS
RS-232 transiever. A source of these was not mentioned.
Does anyone know where these can be purchased or mail-ordered??
Please E-mail me if you know where I can get several of these.
Thanks in advance,

Any users on the group who would care to share their experiences with
Standard's new dual-bander? I have just about decided to buy
one---$675 postage paid! Has anyone set it up with the dual microphone
option? HRO stated that they had sold several thousand units, but only
one dual mic cable set. Anyone successfully used one in digital modes?
How is the cross-band repeater mode?
I would be happy to consolidate comments found here or sent to me via
email and repost in a week.

Joe,
I don't know as much as a tame crow, but I'm doing the same thing. So far,
I've learned to get the jnos package (jnos110g.exe & optionally jnos110g.zip
if you want the source code; it compiles under Borland C 3 I think) from
ftp.ucsd.edu, and while you're there, be sure to get nosview304.zip which
includes docs on the commands and some sample setup files. You should also
get "NOSINTRO" from the ARRL or a local ham radio bookstore.

W1HJF

Hey ted here's what i've sort of grep'ed from my little time with ham.
packet comes in many different flavors the more popular is AX.25
(based on the X.25 networking standard that much of the internet was
based on) thats about all that i know about that....then there's
tcp/ip which is known as a packet switched network.
ok this is probably not what you are lookin for but this may be
packet is a way of communicating digitally using the airwaves as your
mode of transit instead of a T1/56k leased/Ethernet-Lan/etc etc etc
it's kinda like using the internet over the airwaves.....
